What is Henna?
Henna is a small shrub called Lawsonia Inermis. It is commonly found in Asia, and Northern parts of Africa. The leaves of this shrub are dried and made into a powder. It is this powder that is used to make the henna paste which dyes the skin.

What is Mehndi?
Mehndi is art of henna. This is where the henna paste is used to create patterns on the skin. Mehndi is painless and non-permanent. A mehndi pattern can last between 1-3 weeks depending on the individual's body chemistry and after care.
However, the words Henna and Mehndi are often used interchangeably.

When should I get henna done?
Ideally, you should have henna done about 2 days before your event. This is because the henna stain will take between 24 - 48 hours to reach its darkest.
Glitter mehndi should be done on the day of your event.

Can you give me a black henna stain?
In one word, NO. Henna is NEVER black! Chemicals which are commonly used in hair dyes are added to a henna paste to make it give a black stain. This is known to have very bad effects on the skin.
I only ever use natural henna, with that it is possible to achieve a very dark brown, mahogany type stain.

What is glitter mehndi?
Glitter mehndi is great for adding sparkle and colour to you henna design. It's a great option if you don't want a henna stain for a few weeks or if you have to go to work the next day.

Does the glitter stain the skin?
No, the glitter does not stain the skin. It just sits on the surface of the skin.

How long does the glitter last?
I have two types of glitter that I use
- Simple glitter gels:
The glitters are waterproof and can withstand a reasonable amount of friction without rubbing off, so they will last the duration of your event, i.e. the evening. Simply rub the glitter away with some warm water to remove the design - Body glue & glitter:
The process takes longer than using the simple glitter gels but results in a more robust glitter pattern which can last a number of days.

How far in advance can I book you?
Please feel free to contact me as soon as you have some dates in mind even if this is a good few months in advance. I will need at least 48 hours notice to prepare the henna as all of my henna paste is freshly mixed.
